ABOUT THE WORK
Nathenson’s series of paintings entitled “Layers” is his effort to represent nature and the world around him as form and color,
overlapping and intermingled. Perceptions of reality in the imagery in these paintings are primarily his, however he is very aware of and hopeful that the viewer will find their own associations and apply that as the meaning for themselves. He is also very involved in the painting process itself, such as staining acrylic paint into raw canvas and drawing on the surface with oil pastels. Layers Series displayed include: Breaking the Plane, Aquavision, New Earth Four, Breaking the Plane Two, and Eddypool.
