CANDY LE SUEUR specializes in expressive abstract paintings and her intricate works on paper, which includes printmaking. She received a Fine Art degree from the University of Johannesburg and continued her studies at The National Academy School of Fine Art in New York City. Her work is internationally recognized and is included in several collections both in the US and abroad. The National Academy Museum of New York, Jersey City Museum, the Affordable Art Fair and Art Hamptons among other venues Le Sueur has exhibited her paintings and monotypes. Le Sueur is originally from South Africa and lives and works in Jersey City, NJ since 2007.
ABOUT THE WORK
Le Sueur created a series of eight expressive paintings on paper specially made for the corridors of the Canopy Hotel. These are
comprised of four paintings within two different series, custom-made to fit the sophisticated aesthetic of the building – titled Dancing in the Sun #1, 2, 3, & 4 and Silver Streak #1, 2, 3, & 4. The expressive motion of the brushstroke, free floating colors and subtle tonal shifts allows one to enjoy the sheer effervescence of the paint itself. Light seems to emanate from the paintings and the interplay of this and a sudden transition to dark brings a sense of the dramatic to the work. The work presents an unconscious sense of something familiar from the natural world.
