TATSURO NISHIMURA is an internationally award-winning still-life photographer, working in both commercial and fine-art
photography fields. Recently Nishimura has been focusing Cyanotype Photography - the art of capturing the sun’s ultraviolet rays in order to leave blueprints of objects or photo negatives on paper or almost any other type of material. This method captures and expresses compelling observations of the city and provides a distinctive view of our magnificent blue planet. His unique images of the industrial buildings of Jersey City are reminiscent of the past with a contemporary composition. Nishimura is based in Jersey City, NJ where he both lives and works in the Powerhouse Arts District walking distance from the Canopy Hotel. He received his undergraduate degree from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.
ABOUT THE WORK
Each photograph throughout the guest corridors are handmade cyanotype prints made for the Canopy Hotel. Two variations of cyanotype photographs are displayed - the Colgate Clock and Powerhouse. For the Guest Elevator Lobbies, Nishimura’s Film Strip Series showcases two versions of industrial images of Jersey City – titled: Jersey City Old Railroad and Downtown Jersey City.
