ABOUT THE WORK
JUMP LOBBY MURAL CONCEPT: Rich culture, textures & sophisticated colors that are intertwined within our Jersey City Culture.
The tallest buildings in NJ are the focus of the mural, showcasing the modern JC skyline of the Wall Street West industry that has developed downtown. The PATH train brings the skyline to connect us with its historic beginnings in the Jersey Central Line train as it runs from the Powerhouse building. The Powerhouse building itself has been historically linked to transportation for over 100 years as it first powered the coal fueled Hudson-Manhattan Railroad and now powers the PATH trains. It was important that both vintage and current modern vibes coexist here to showcase the diverse Jersey City of today. This is symbolized by the shipping boat docked to the left to reference the great shipping industry in Jersey City. Then to pay homage to KAWS, the great Picasso of our time who is a Jersey City born artist that birthed a rich street art culture, his partial TAG can be seen on the brim of the shipping boat. High above, the terminal crane reminds us of the constant evolution and construction that develops all around us here in our thriving city. Roig's innovative urban design presented here invites people into this vibrant art piece and encourages them to share their art experience online by tagging @CanopyJerseyCity on social media.
